Lives of the Saints: Contemporary Icons and Reliquaries

Lives of the Saints: Contemporary Icons and Reliquaries -- Box constructions by Corea artist Margo Klass, with legends by Frank Soos, will be featured at Chapter Two, 611 Corea Road, Corea for the month of September.  Inspired by the literary Book of Saints, Margo's constructions speak to the foibles and obsessions of contemporary culture.  Visually Margo's constructions recall medieval icons, shrines, and reliquaries. In scale and structure, they retain the intimacy and contemplative aspects of their historical counterparts. Within the box constructions are 3-dimensional abstract images of fictitious saints composed of found and fabricated objects. Accompanying the boxes are legends of the saints by writer Frank Soos. His miniature essays may be philosophic, whimsical, ironic, or humorous, but always relevant to the collective consciousness of contemporary life.  On September 5th, from 4pm - 6pm, Chapter Two will host an artist reception and gallery talk, with a portion of proceeds from the sale of works being donated to support the artists and galleries which lost so much in the devestating fire in Northeast Harbor earlier this summer.  For more information, contact Rosemary or Garry at 963-7269 or chaptertwocorea@aol.com
