Corea Found
Chapter Two in Corea will feature the work of Corea artist Marianne Perlak during the month of July. After 20 years of observing the changing light show in the Schoodic area and from her Corea cottage in particular, Marianne began working with oil pastels to explore the abstract skies, hovering fog and characteristic islands and trees. Her work is impressionistic with realistic proportions in a format that suggests intimate or solitary mood. Athough her painting is new, Marianne has long been collecting materials and objects (natural or man-made) from the shores of Corea or yard sales around Schoodic has been on-going entertainment full of delightful surprises. They soon were joined together to make the first generation of assemblages which encouraged friends to donate boxes of items to be considered for a new form. Her current works have evolved into precise constructions with rhtyms of repetition that marry the found objects with new materials. A graduate of Pratt Institute with an MFA from Tufts, she has recently retired as the Art Direcor for Harvard University Press, where she received multiple awards to include the W. A. Dwiggins Award for outstanding achievements in design and dedication to the publishing world. Chapter Two is located at 611 Corea Rd, Corea.
