Governor Baldacci Visits Old Town Elementary School's Second Grade
On Tuesday, November 6th, second graders at the Old Town Elementary School had a very special visitor. Governor John Baldacci arrived in front of the school at 8:30 a.m.! He was greeted by the students, who held a giant banner depicting many of the State of Maine symbols. Governor Baldacci was also greeted by classroom teacher Mary Keane, University Student Michelle Morneault, and Principal Jeanna Tuell. Dr. Tuell presented the Governor with a hat and stickers representing the Old Town Elementary School's Motto: "Work Hard and Be Kind," as well as the school's 4 different "community" colors; Red, yellow, blue, and green. Once in the classroom, Governor Baldacci spoke with the class about the importance of the day and his hopes that all of the adults would make it to the polls and vote. The second graders eagerly waited for the Governor to read "Duck For President" by Doreen Cronin. After the story, the class unanimously agreed that his reading was very "cookie worthy!" Classmate Kayla Boucher presented the Governor with his favorite "Blaine House Chocolate Chip Cookies" baked just the day before by the class. Governor Baldacci also took time during his visit to answer some questions asked by the students. John wanted to know if he had any kids? Dustin asked what it "felt" like to be the Governor? Kayla B. asked how much longer he would be the Governor and if she would still be his #1 fan? After the visit with the second graders, Dr. Tuell offered to escort Governor Baldacci through the school communities to say hello to all of the classrooms. This was definitely a memorable vist for our school. Mrs. Keane's second graders remarked that they were excited, nervous, and thrilled to have the Governor stop in and read a story to them. Baking Governor baldacci's favorite cookies was pretty neat too! None of this would have been possible without a very special "Papa." Kayla B.'s Grandfather, Ed Boucher set the whole visit up. He also worked hard to get many, many State of Maine goodies for our class. We especially want to thank him for all that he has done for his grandaughter Kayla this year, as well as her whole class! Thanks to Governor Baldacci for taking the time out of his very busy schedule to spend some quality time with our class. Tuesday, November 6th, is a day we will treasure forever!
